iPhone SDK, where are you?

At the risk of jumping on the run-away train that is the iPhone Rumour Express I am left wondering where the iPhone SDK is?

We have had various posts around the web (tuaw) that the SDK would be released on Tuesday (today). However there is no sign of it yet. Mr Jobs promised it by the end of Feb 2008, and there have been reports that it may infact be delayed. It seems like Apple are up to their old tricks – stalling the release of a product in order to build the hype even more (Leopard anyone?)

Fair enough there are still 3 days left, so maybe my post is a little premature, still it doesn’t hurt to speculate. Seems that i’m not the only one kicking up a fuss before its due. PCWorld are also at it.

If and when the SDK lands here are a few things I would like to see:

  • MMS capability
  • Full SMS support (forwarding, alternate views (date, sender etc), cut and paste)
  • System wide cut and paste
  • File system access from the iPhone
  • Video capture
  • BBC iPlayer (this is coming soon though)
  • Flash player (again this should be coming soon)

I still have mixed views about how good the iPhone is. Apple seemed to have missed out basic features in lieu of more advanced ones (iTunes store, multi-touch interface). In my view the basics should have been in place from the very start. Hopefully 1.1.4 will change my views on my iPhone.

*Update*

So it looks like the closure of the Apple store today was to introduce the 2Gb Shuffle and updated MacBook’s and MacBook Pro’s

No SDK or 1.1.4 yet!!??

iPlayer would be a real bonus! I’m also after proper EyeTV support.
